5th KYU YELLOW BELT (gokyu) DOKAN RYU JU JUTSU- UKEMI WAZA: MAE UKEMI- THE FORWARD BREAKFALL

UKEMI WAZA (break falls, falling techniques):

Ukemi waza is not only trained to be able to fall when you are thrown, the breakfalls are also an important part in selfdefense (for example if you are pushed down). Try to invest some time in ukemi waza practice! Right from the start! 

Ukemi waza skill is important in order to avoid injuries during throwing practice
as well as to train away the fear of falling. Training will also be more fun if you master ukemi waza.

3. Mae ukemi (without damping)

Mae ukemi means forward break fall. Another name for the rolling forward break fall is Zenpo kaiten ukemi or Mae mawari ukemi.

  • Have a slightly bent right arm, aim and look into your left armpit.
  • Place your chin against your chest.
  • Roll diagonally across right shoulder, back and left hip.
  • Stand up in Kamae afterwards!
