TACHI WAZA (stances)

5. Kamae

Kamae is our fighting and defense stance.
Kamae actually means position or posture.

The hands are lightly clenched and protect the head, forearms/elbows protect the torso. Stand by feet shoulder-width length and width.

Consider taking a guard, where you will easily be able:
to defend yourself
to come in to get one
grip/throw
to punch and kick away

You should be able to use your hip on one
optimal way and have a good balance, a guard that is functional in both fighting and self-defense.
